Due to current COVID-19 pandemic 822 Squadron and CYDC building are closed until further notice. We are hoping to return to the unit and have everything sanitized and ready to go for 9 September!
Cadets runs the same time as school does (September to June – we “stand down” during school holidays). Our main Training Nights are Wednesdays from 6:30pm to 9:30pm. Our location can be found under “CONTACT”. You can join anytime up to 31 January. Beyond that date you are unable to be credited for the current training year. Each full year in the cadet program accounts for one training year, and is outlined as ‘level 1’, ‘level 2’, etc. Gaining in level affords greater opportunities to succeed in leadership, physical fitness, aviation, summer camps, promotions, and to meet new friends!
You must be 12 years old to join and must leave when you turn 19. We supply everything and only ask for your time commitment. Please bring proof of Citizenship and Health Card in with your Cadet Enrollment Form (see button above). If you are unable to complete and print (legal paper preferred) the form at home we do have hard copies at the unit to complete the night of joining.
What you put into the cadet program you will get back two fold! At 822, we offer multiple team activities (listed below), which build camaraderie, increases personal standards and willingness to succeed, to having a fun, safe time, in a military themed atmosphere. There is the occasional trip that requires a small expense. Cadets fund raise for such activities throughout the year, the hours of which can be accumulated toward high school credit. If an activity goes above the money raised (ie, US trip where the Canadian dollar loses value), there can be an added cost, but it’s minimal. There are often two citizen trips each year, which encompass around a theme, mostly aviation based. 822 recently went on a 4 day trip over the March Break to CFB Trenton, where cadets were given a taste of military accommodations, ablutions, food, and the gift of flight in a C130J Transport aircraft (Hercules)!
We have the following Team Activities:
– Aviation/Aerospace
– Search & Rescue
– Drill Team
– Effective Speaking/Debating Teams (hosted at 530 Sqn)
– Flying Scholarship
– Honour Guard
– Pipes and Drum Band
– Range (air rifle) Team
– Summer Training (paid summer training!)
