Canadian Armed Forces Member
Research Project
and Model Plane Build
Research Project: Cadets will research a past or present member of the Canadian Armed Forces.
Guidelines
- Canadian Armed forces member can be a current or past member of the services
- Written project is to be no more then 300 words
- Use the materials that are available to you. I.E. paper, crayon, pencil crayons, cardboard…etc.
- Completed project will be photographed and e-mailed to Lt Gibbons and Captain Wilson
- Projects will be kept when completed so they can be displayed at the squadron.
Details
- The Canadian Armed Forces member can be a family member. This would be an amazing opportunity to learn something new about your family and how they served Canada in the Armed Forces.
- The person could be a Canadian Armed Forces member of interest such as General Roméo Dallaire, Colonel Chris Hadfield, Air Marshall Billy Bishop, Vice Admiral Henry DeWolf, General Rick Hillier etc.
- State why you choose this person and what drew you to their story.
- What effect did this person have on the situations they were in and how did they effect the people or situations around them?
- What service were they in, how long did they serve, what unit, squadron, ship did they serve on. What rank did they achieve, what citations/medals did they receive and why?
- What did you find inspiring about their story and What lessons did you learn from their story?
The completed projects are to be photographed and emailed to Lt Gibbons and Captain Wilson. The projects will be reviewed by staff and 11 model plane kits will be awarded to cadets to build.
Model Plane Challenge
- Kits that will be awarded may be a Supermarine Spitfire, P-47 Thunderbolt, Hawker Typhoon, Hawker Tempest or P-39 Airacobra.
- Kits will be mailed out and include glue, a brush and one paint.
- Cadets are to build the planes and decorate them. Remember to take your time and allow the glue time to dry.
- Planes are to have R.C.A.F. roundels on them
- Use materials that are available to you at home, craft water or latex paints, markers, etc.
- Have fun making the kits.
When cadets have completed building the kits, they are to take a picture of the completed plane and are to email the pictures to Lt Gibbons and Captain Wilson. The planes will be judged and gift certificates will be awarded to the 1st, 2nd and Third place winners. Gift Certificates will be for Forbes Hobbies in Cambridge. Note: The research projects and model planes are to be kept by the cadets so they can be displayed at the squadron, upon their return.
